LEPIDOPTERA
LESLEY ROY DESIGNS ONCE AGAIN TAKES US TO FLIGHTS OF FANCY WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF "BUTTERFLIES AND MOTHS"

From time immemorial poets have sung the praises of the beautiful and gentle Lepidoptera: butterflies and moths. These creatures are among the most colorful of living things (and among the most successful-second only to the beetles in number of species per order). In flight they are light and graceful; at rest their form is elegant and pleasing. It is little wonder that the Lepidoptera are the most prized of insects.

Now noted designer, Lesley Roy has assembled a dinnerware collection of Butterflies & Moths, Old Masters Flora and, Leopard gilt border (a play on the word Lepidoptera), which immediately transports us to a time long ago. Lesley's artwork, reminiscent of an exquisite 17th century Dutch or Flemish still life; is rich with luminous color. Butterflies and moths flutter around lush hydrangea, delicate dogwood blossoms, vibrant foliage, and persimmon colored peonies, all framed on a crackled black onyx background.

Share in the design… the joy of the find. Listen for the hum of history in her work, making connections among art and objects of different times and cultures, and gathering images so that, as in poetry, they reveal new meaning.
