Orchidaceum Tri-Gold™ Blush & Yellow 8” Prototype Luncheon Plates withs 3" Bdr. — Set of 9
Created as an experimental prototype and never offered for sale or placed into production, this extraordinary set of nine 8” luncheon plates explores a dramatically different interpretation of the Orchidaceum collection. Each petite orchid-and-hummingbird composition is surrounded by an unusually wide 3” hand-colored silver-leaf border, creating an almost jewel-like frame around the artwork.
The set includes three different orchid and hummingbird compositions, presented in Tri-Gold™ Blush and Yellow. Particularly rare is the soft pink orchid artwork appearing on three plates—an early prototype coloration that was ultimately replaced by green in the final collection and never used in production.
Perfectly scaled for an elegant ladies’ luncheon or afternoon tea, these petite plates are made for finger sandwiches, petits fours, scones and other small delicacies. Arranged together, their different botanical compositions create a wonderfully whimsical table, with tiny hummingbirds appearing to flit from plate to plate among the orchids.
Together, the nine plates preserve a fascinating moment in the development of Orchidaceum: experimental, completely original, and unlike anything ultimately offered in the collection.
One-of-a-kind prototype set of nine. Only this set exists in the Lesley Roy Archive.
